2000 Guineas Betting Update PT 1

We have had a pretty dramatic withdrawal from the 2000 Guineas Ante Post Market as Too Darn Hot has been officially undeclared for the first British Classic of the 2019 season. He had been trading as the outright favourite by a significant margin over the last few months since the flat season wrapped up last year and the punters who had backed him down to such a short price must be rueing their luck at this point in time.

Too Darn Hot had been trading above evens but his listing had been trending downwards since he had begun training for the upcoming season with the eye towards using the Guineas as his seasonal debut.

Now it looks as though Ten Sovereigns - who had long been seen as a pretender to Too Darn Hot’s ante post crown - is reigning as the outright choice and he has plenty of ability to get things done.

As it currently stands, you’ll find him priced around a 14/5 margin at this point and that’s likely to trend even lower as we get closer to the Guineas actually running next weekend. A few bookmakers have him trading around a 5/2 margin and it’s difficult to see where a significant gamble comes from out of the rest of the pack in the ante post market.

Persian King is available anywhere between 3/1 all the way up to a 9/2 price tag and it will be interesting to see where his odds actually wind up on the day of the race. He’s too short for an each-way selection and might struggle to make up ground if Ten Sovereigns gets the start that he wants.
