Cheltenham Gold Cup Last Minute Betting Tips

We are starting to see some price fluctuations affecting the 2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup as Kauto Star's price continues to trend downwards.

Those who have waited to back Denman are likely thanking themselves, as he is now back up to 5/1 and looks to be increasing. There haven't been any break-out selections looking like they're set for an especially big challenge, and surprisingly Tricky Trickster's price has trended northward from 12/1 to 14/1, currently.

Imperial Commander continues to hold steady at 7/1 with most bookmakers, and is just a bit south of that on the tote board. Calgary Bay and Carruthers both continue to trade at 66/1 and are both looking for a miracle. It's just going to take so much to dispose of Kauto Star, but we all know that jumps racing is the great equalizer and a last minute fall can change everything.

Cerium and Mr Pointment continue to trade at 500/1, and these should only go so far as to be place options or potential bottom slots for a forecast bet with Kauto Star on the top end. That would be a nice payer, even with Kauto trading around 4/6 at the moment.

Big Buck's win yesterday has re-inspired punters confidence in the Cheltenham bankers, and if Kauto picks up his third Gold Cup, it will make the bankers 50% for the festival.

5/1 Denman remains the big variable and the only truly realistic challenge to Kauto Star. He's beaten him before on this stage and, though many feel that Denman was at a different level back then, he showed all kinds of form when giving up piles of weight in his season debut and still triumphing.

His fall in the Aon is the reason he's not at 5/2 right now, but you could also say that Kauto Star wouldn't be at 4/6 without winning the King George by 36 lengths.

I don't think it will be another stroll like that for Kauto Star, and I have a feeling that he will have to hold off a late challenge from at least one contender down the stretch. I have faith in Ruby Walsh's ability to handle the ride and I would be kicking myself if I wasn't backing Kauto here.
