2015 Open Championship Final Day Betting PT 2

Spieth has the confidence of the punters it seems but there are three players tied at -12 to his -11 and you’ll find a few familiar faces there but one face who is decidedly not a household name. Hailing from county Wicklow, Ireland, the young amateur is deadlocked on the lead alongside former Open winner Louis Oosthuizen and perennial contender Jason Day.

It is unique to see an amateur hanging around this late into affairs and he will be put to the test on the final day with two established PGA professionals - and he’ll also have to keep his eyes open behind his back for another amateur as American Jordan Niebrugge is sitting at -9 after moving into contention on a day that saw a number of players post excellent scores.

Looking at the rest of the contenders who are currently in the mix, we’ve got another Irishman Padraig Harrington, sitting as the only player at -10 while a host of players (some names recognizable and some relatively unknown) are sitting at a score of -9 heading into Monday.

Dustin Johnson will be disappointed with his performance on Sunday as he was right up there in the mix for a while but failed to really put it together when it genuinely mattered and he has faltered down to a score of -7 and looks like he’s trying to hang tough for a spot in the top 10 as opposed to winning the Open, which it looked like he would be competing for when he started the day’s play this morning.

Danny Willett had been flirting with the leaders position for the latter part of his round on Sunday as well but just couldn’t string the necessary momentum together and sits in that large glut of players at -9 alongside Adam Scott, Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia.

There are a number of previous winners who are breathing down the necks of the three players deadlocked on -12 heading into the final day and it’s going to be really interesting to see how it’s all going to pan out with Spieth actually having posted the best score on Sunday of 66 and plenty of punters really thinking he’s got what it takes to close the deal on Monday.
