2016 King George VI Chase Betting Preview PT 2

The aforementioned Coneygree is third in the wagering for the King George and he sits at a 5/1 price with virtually every top bookmakers. He's been twice so far this season once in a listed effort at Sandown and the second race being that second place effort in the Betfair Chase – and it was actually his first loss since January of 2013 seeing as though he didn't lose in either of his two efforts in 2014 and then went two for two in 2015.

It will be interesting to see if they opt for a change in tactics for the 2015 Gold Cup winner and potentially sit him just off the lead instead of making all right from the start of the contest. He's one to watch and with a good pre-race appearance it might be interesting to see how short he actually goes off – particularly if Thistlecrack chooses another option.

The Rich Ricci owned tandem of Douvan and Vroom Vroom Mag make up a very interesting pair of contenders with the mighty Douvan being strongly considered for this as a potential seasonal debut for Willy Mullins yard.

It is important to note, however, that he boasts an entry for the Paddy Power Cashcard Chase on December 27th at Punchestown and that's a lot more likely if you assume he goes to the Queen Mother at Cheltenham (where he is 4/6 ante post) as opposed to the Gold Cup (where he is 12/1 ante post) via the traditional King George route.

The sensational novice chaser should be ready for the big step up against Grade 1 opposition and remains very interesting should be wind up going in this direction. His stablemate, the talented mare Vroom Vroom Mag, was just bested in the Hatton's Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse a few das ago and that will have been a disappointment for the punters who backed her down to 4/7 only to see her lose by a short head.

She remains a 10/1 option for the King George but she also boasts entries to a slew of other races around the same time such as the Cashcard Chase, the Christmas Hurdle, Lexus Chase and Ryanair Hurdle all at Leopardstown in late December.
