2017 Mares Hurdle Betting Preview

One of the most interesting races at the Cheltenham Festival every year is always the OLBG Mares Hurdle and this year's iteration of the race appears to be no different. Typically, there is always a massive favourite – the likes of an Annie Power for instance – and the 2017 version of the Mares' Hurdle boasts a bit of a face off between two extremely talented females coming out of the exact same yard.

Both Vroum Vroum Mag and Limini race in the colours of Rich Ricci and the pair of them are both trading at a 7/4 price tag to win the mares hurdle. This is kind of a tricky scenario for a lot of punters since Vroum Vroum Mag is seemingly entered in every single race at this year's Cheltenham Festival anyway.

Her last victory came in the Doncaster Mares Hurdle when she was able to best Midnight Jazz by a head to leave it late for the punters who backed her at a slim 1/5 margin. Prior to that it was a length victory over the likes of Clondaw Warrior at Leopardstown in the Christmas Hurdle. The only loss of her career came in the Hatton's Grace Hurdle against the likes of Apple's Jade – who got the better of her by a short head.

Apple's Jade is very much in the mix here as well and if you reckon that one of the two Ricci horses will be pointed elsewhere, you're going to get a decent price here. As it currently stands, you can back Apple's Jade as high as a 4/1 margin with a few books going as low as a 5/2 margin. Her past two losses came against Vroum Vroum Mag and Irving so you know that this particular contender is no slouch.

Limini is the really interesting variable here with the Mares Hurdle being the only race she has a Cheltenham entry for. Now priced as low as an 11/10 price tag with a few bookmakers, Limini put in a really good shift at Cheltenham last year in the Dawn Run Mares Novice Hurdle and deserves plenty of respect here since it appears as though Vroum Vroum Mag may be skipping this one and going for a tougher challenge.

Punters will also find Jer's Girl, who can be backed at a 7/1 listing right now while Let's Dance can be backed anywhere from an 8/1 margin all the way up to a 10/1 price tag with a couple of bookmakers. Airlie Beach has a stellar record and has an impressive each-way price of about 16/1 right now and is definitely worth a look.
