2019 Kentucky Derby Betting Update PT 1

Things are definitely starting to get interesting in the race for the 2019 Kentucky Derby right now with a number of key preps having been run over the previous weekend and, while they haven’t upset the key contenders from their positions in the ante post market, it has certainly brought a few other rather interesting horses into the frame and they will have an effect on the set of prices available to punters going forward.

With the two big contests at both Golden Gate Fields in San Francisco and Fair Grounds in New Orleans, the El Camino Real Derby and Risen Star Stakes are considered to be the key preps for some of the big points races that unfold in just about 5 or 6 weeks time to offer up automatic entry to the Kentucky Derby for any winner.

There is a lot to like about the way that this year’s iteration of the race is shaping up and there really hasn’t emerged a genuinely stand out contender aside from last year’s BC Juvenile’s Champion Game Winner.

Game Winner hasn’t run since then, however, and we have seen a recurring trend of horses that win the Juvenile but don’t wind up actually making it to the race itself or certainly don’t run at a decent price.

There is a lot to like about the Gary & Mary West-owned colt and you can bank on him continuing to hold onto his price unless he picks up an injury or fails to make an appearance in the Santa Anita Derby - which is likely where he is going to be aimed by conditioner Bob Baffert.
