A Coral betting shop customer in Birmingham City Centre today placed an eight thousand pound cash bet on England to win the Cricket World Cup at odds of 8/1.

"This is by far the biggest bet we have taken on the World Cup and it is somehwat surprising given England's overall performance over the winter", said Simon Clare, Coral Spokesman.

Australia are Coral's 2/1 to win the competition with South Africa next best at 4/1.

Coral is offering odds on who will be England's top batsman and make Kevin Pietersen the 5/2 favourite, and are also betting on England's top bowler with Andrew Flintoff the 11/4 favourite.

Coral is offering a range of special six hitting markets and is offering 25/1 that six 6's are hit off an over at any stage in the tournament.
