2007 World Cup
The ICC Cricket World Cup, generally referred to as the Cricket World Cup, is the premier international championship of men's One-day International cricket. The event is organised by the sport's governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), with preliminary qualification rounds leading up to a finals tournament which is held every four years. In 2003, Australia beat India by 125 runs to win the cricket world cup. The 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup took place in the West Indies from March 13 to April 28, 2007. There were a total of 51 matches played in the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup and it was contested by 16 nations divided into 4 groups of 4 teams. The top two teams from each group then competed in a "Super 8" format. The drawn-out scheduling eventually led to a Australia v Sri Lanka final and Adam Gilchrist smashed a cenury for the favourites who despite a farcical recall onto the pitch to try and complete the overs in the dark, dominated the Sri Lanka side to retain the cricket World Cup.
