Football Bets explained
February 27, 2006Football Bets
You can bet on a number of different markets for most football matches. Below we take a look at some of the most popular and explain how they work.
What is Normal Time?
Most of the football bets relate to "normal time". Normal time time includes injury time but excludes extra time.
Betting on the Full Time Result
Betting on the full time result for football matches is the most common type of football bet. Full time results bets can be called all "WLD bets" (for win lose draw) or "1x2" bets (pool notation for home win, draw and away win).
With a full time result bet you are predicting what the result at the end of normal time will be: a win for one team, a win for the other team or a draw.
Total Goals Bets
Total Goals Football Bets is also referred to as under/over bets. This is usually a two option bet on whether there will be more than 2.5 goals or less than 2.5 goals at the end of normal time. This a popular football bet as there are only two outcomes.
Correct Score Bets
This bet involves predicting the score at the end of normal time. Scores are quotes as "Home Team Score - Away Team Score" Obviously there are all sorts of possible scorelines for a match so the odds can be quite high but also the chances of winning quite low.
Half Time / Full Time (HT/FT)
Also known as "double result" this is a bet on predicting the result at half time and full time in the same bet.
First Goal Scorer Bet
This bet is for who will score the first goal. Each bookie has a different policy on whether own goals count and what the susbstitue policy is, so check with your bookmaker!
Half Time Result
Same as the Full time result but based on the result at Half Time. This is the score when the whistle goes, including first half injury time.
Draw No Bet
This is like a full time result bet but than there is no option for the draw. You can bet on either team to win and if its a draw you get your stake back.
Asian Handicap Betting
This is a very popular football bet. Each team is given a goals handicap and you bet on the match result after that handicap. The bets are structured so that there are only 2 options to chose from, and up to 5 scenarios depending on the handicap quoted and the final result
you lose all your stake
you lose half your stake
you get your stake back
you win on half your stake and get the other half of your stake back
you win on all your stake
