Football betting: Champions League update

One British bookmaker has been left sweating after the latest round of Champions League action and is fearful of a surprise win for Greek champions Olympiakos, after they took a string of three figure, and one four-figure, bets for the Athens side to pull off a shock win in the tournament.

Olympiakos drew 0-0 against Chelsea and their form suggested they could go further in this season's Champions League: "Olympiakos are a hefty six-figure loser for us at the moment, after we took a bet of £1500 for them to win at 100/1 and numerous other three figure bets at three figure odds," said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe.

"However, we are not over-concerned with them at the moment and probably a little more apprehensive that Arsenal are also six figure losers for us - and we have one bet of £5000 at 12/1 on the Gunners."

William Hill say they are also wary of Lyon and Chelsea winning the tournament - particularly because of their multiple liabilities on the Londoners, who are down from 125/1 to 100/1 to win all four trophies this season.
 
Didier Drogba is the 6/1 favourite with totesport to make it a hat-trick of Man of the Match awards in this Sunday's Carling Cup. The Chelsea striker picked up the award in both the Carling and FA Cup finals last season. Tottenham striker, Dimitar Berbatov, and Chelsea forward, Nicolas Anelka, are the 8/1 joint second favourites. 

Paul Petrie, totesport spokesman commented: "Drogba has produced the goods in the last two finals and is the obvious contender for the man of the match award."

William Hill offer 10/11 that a Premier League team will win the Champions League, and now make Manchester United 13/8 favourites to go the furthest of all the five remaining British teams. Hills also offer 15/8 Chelsea; 3/1 Liverpool; 5/1 Arsenal and 100/1 Celtic.

Arsenal are now Even money shots to go through with William Hill who make AC Milan 8/11 favourites to advance after they held the north London club to a goalless draw at the Emirates; Hills make Man Utd 1/12 to eliminate Lyon who are 6/1 to do vice versa; Celtic are 20/1 to knock out Barcelona after their 3-2 defeat at home.
