Indianapolis Colts march toward perfection heads to Cincinnati where they will face their toughest opponent to date. The game can be watched live on Sky Sports extra from 9pm, following the almost as enthralling NFC South clash.

The last team to go 9-0 in the NFL, Kansas City, was defeated two years ago this week (11/16/03) in Cincinnati 24-19. On that occasion, it was Jon Kitna who passed the Bengals to a phenomenal victory that was made all the more impressive considering their talent pool wasn’t as deep as it is now.

The Bengals are 7-2 for the first time since 1988 and have had two weeks to prepare for Indianapolis. They can establish themselves as legitimate Super Bowl contenders if they knock off the NFL's last remaining unbeaten team.

Looking at the stats and it would appear as if we could be in for an extremely entertaining match-up. Carlson Palmer and Peyton Manning lead the league in  touchdown passes, while the two teams are the top two in scoring defence.

Two of the most productive wide-receivers will also be on show with Chad Johnson who leads the AFC in receiving yards,  while Marvin Harrison leads the conference in touchdown catches.

One signficant drawback in latching onto the overs at 47 immediately is a suspect weather forecast with rain, wind and snow all possible factors.

We should then swerve the points, and instead focus on the handicap market that gives the Bengals as much as a six point start. Assuming conditions don’t make for a fast paced game, that will have an impact on the top AFC team.

Ever since Tony Dungy arrived in Indianapolis, it has been no secret his desire to build a speedy defence. That he has achieved now with considerable success, although their effectiveness may be somewhat reduced on a heavy surface.

Another factor in favour of the home team is they are coming off a bye week. Marvin Lewis should have his young squad well rested and ready to go for Sunday. The extra week will also serve as valuable preparation time that could make all the difference.

As mentioned at the top, the Bengals have some experience beating 9-0 teams. There is a massive temptation to back them to do it again, considering their two week rest period and the Colts can be scored on.

I am though going to be content with taking the hosts with a six point start. Cincinnati have an offence capable of keeping it close, and that may not even be necessary if the weather takes a turn for the worse.
