Ladbrokes and what happens if Azerbaijan wins.
March 29, 2005Labdrokes make England 1/50 to beat Azerbaijan at St James' Park and offer 50/1 Azerbaijan and 7/1 the draw. England are just 8/1 to equal Poland's effort at the weekend and score eight goals or more. Michael Owen is odds-on at 4/5 to score two or more goals and move into 4th place in the all time England goalscorers (including friendlies). Meanwhile, Azerbaijan coach Carlos Alberto is 7/1 fifth favourite to be the next permanent manager of Manchester City.
Ladbrokes spokesman Warren Lush said: " We are seeing plenty of money for a rout and have only taken just over £50 on Azerbaijan to win from punters around the world. This is the most one-sided match we have seen for years. There's even been money on Gary Neville to score at odds of 8/1."
"Punters are staking £1000 on an England victory just to win £20, they think it is better interest than the bank. If Sven's men do slip up we'll need an army of wheelbarrows to carry away the money we'd make."
