At 10/3 with Paddy Power West Ham are excellent value to revive their love affair with the FA Cup by getting the better of Manchester City at Eastlands in their third round replay, which is live on BBC1 at 8pm on Wednesday night.

The two sides shared a goalless draw at Upton Park two weekends ago and 5/6 rated City will fancy their chances on home soil, where they are one of only four teams yet to lose in the Premier League this season.

However, the Premier League this is not and City did come unstuck at home when they lost 2-0 to ten-man Tottenham in the Carling Cup. And you get the feeling that with City riding high in the league, Sven-Goran Eriksson wouldn't exactly be heartbroken if his foreign legion - many of whom are experiencing their first taste of relentless winter action in England - were spared the extra matches demanded of a cup competition that has not been won by a club outside the Big Four since 1995.

West Ham, on the other hand, were seconds from breaking that four-club stranglehold two years ago, until Steven Gerrard struck to take a pulsating Cup final into extra-time and a penalty shoot-out which Liverpool won.

After coming so close, the Hammers will want to go one better – not least Dean Ashton, who scored in that final, and who is now rediscovering his goalscoring touch after a lengthy injury nightmare. Ashton's return has been central to his side's improving fortunes, which includes the defeat of Manchester United in a strong run.

Ashton scored against Fulham at the weekend and, if he starts against Man City, is a strong recommendation to do so first at 8/1 with Paddy Power, who will refund such a wager if ether Stephen Ireland or Lee Bowyer score – the bet is fittingly called 'Dumb Dumber'.

Alan Curbishley's side have won on their travels seven times this campaign and with City's eyes on a greater prize the time is right to put some Irons in the fire.

Verdict: 2pts West Ham to bt Manchester City @ 10/3 (Paddy Power); 2pts Dean Ashton to score first @ 8/1
