Arsenal really needed to come through their Champions League test at Liverpool in midweek to give them the belief that their efforts this season haven't all been for nothing but Arsène Wenger's men will still be reeling from that dramatic defeat at Anfield when they travel north this weekend.

The Premier League title is the only silverware left to them now but in order to win the Premier League the Gunners must beat United at Old Trafford to reduce the gap at the top to three points and then hope other results go their way. Arsenal would be a match for United with a full contingent available but the brittleness of their squad has been exposed following injuries to Bacary Sagna, Tomas Rosicky, Eduardo, Robin van Persie and now Mathieu Flamini – who has been Arsenal's stand-out player this season but is now out for three weeks.

United, meanwhile, could afford to rest Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes for their semi-final second leg victory against Roma and they will be rubbing their hands at the prospect of picking off a beleaguered Arsenal side low on energy and morale and with January's 4-0 FA Cup fourth round thrashing at Old Trafford also still fresh in the mind.

Nemanja Vidic is out for United but Gerard Pique has proven to be an able deputy at the back. Unlike Arsenal, United can afford to draw on Sunday, and so will pack their midfield and look to catch Arsenal on the break -  a ploy they have used to great effect in the Premier League in recent weeks.

Arsenal have struggled to keep clean sheets all season and without the industry of Flamini in the middle they will struggle to keep their hosts at bay. Don't be surprised if Ronaldo adds to the extraordinary 37 goals he has so far managed this season or if United win this match comfortably.
