Miss World Betting Tips

September 20, 2006

Miss World, a competition founded by Eric Morley, the man responsible for the entertainment chain Mecca, is established as one of the most watched annual events on television - at its peak the show drew a staggering audience of 27.5million in Britain alone!

The claws will be out in force in Warsaw, Poland on September 30 when the 56th Miss World extravaganza takes place, as 104 fine female specimens are put through their paces, all bidding to carry away the coveted crown.

It is had to be said that, regardless of how hard a day the bookies' male odds compilers have had, I very much doubt that there would be few complaints from those appointed to price this event up. At the time of writing, Blue Square and Sporting Odds are the firms to have formed a market on this event.

Sporting Odds make Miss Australia, Sabrina Houssami, the 13/2 favourite, while Blue Square make her the 7/1 co favourite along with Miss Venezuela, Alexandra Federica Guzman Diamante, and Miss India, Natasha Suri.

The Australians will feel it's high time they won this competition - they've won it twice in its history but haven't tasted success since 1972. Conversely, India boast an outstanding recent record in this event, prevailing three times in the last decade, the latest victory coming when Priyanka Chopra reigned in 2000.

India and Venezuela are two of the most successful nations in the history of this event, both having landed the prize on five occasions. It is no surprise, therefore, to see that these countries once again are represented by candidates whom figure prominently in the perceived pecking order.

Of the triumvirate at the head of the betting, Miss Venezuela, a 24-year-old TV Hostess, is the most likely winner in our opinion and is well worth supporting at the top-priced 7/1.

The Miss Venezuela contest has been in existence since 1952 and is revered for its unparalleled record at winning international contests - it is the world's most successful national beauty title. Venezuela won its first Miss Earth title in 2005 with Alexandra Braun Waldeck and in Alexandra Federica Guzman Diamante, who won the 2005 Miss World's Beach Beauty contest, the nation has an excellent chance of capturing Miss World for the sixth time.

India's Natasha Suri was runner-up in the Beach Beauty contest, ahead of Tatana Kucharová of the Czech Republic, who is a 20/1 chance to capture the big one on September 30. Also on 20s is Miss Angola, Stiviandra de Oliveira, who was the third runner up in the Beach Beauty event.

It's always worth having a couple of small savers in this contest and those that appeal most at bigger prices are Miss Dominican Republic, Paola Torres Cohen, who is a standout 25/1 with Blue Square, while Iceland's representative, Asdis Svava Hallgrimsdottir, is well worth backing at 22/1 with Sporting Odds.

Verdict:

2pts Miss Venezuela @ 7/1 (Blue Square)
0.50pts Miss Dominican Republic @ 25/1 (Blue Square)
0.50 pts Miss Iceland @ 22/1 (Sporting Odds)
