Showdown Sunday: Premier League Football tips

As the last day of the Premier League looms Chelsea fans are hoping that Wigan will do them a favour by beating Manchester United on Sunday. But although the title race will finish predictably (ko 3pm, SS1) both Aston Villa and Fulham can help return a 7/1 fourfold.

Chelsea can safely be trusted to overpower Bolton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (ko 3pm, SS2), as they hope that Wigan help them out at the JJB Stadium. The Blues have found their second wind since beating Arsenal and, with Bolton's safety secured for another season, Avram Grant's men will not meet with much resistance from Gary Megson's men.

The same argument could be made for Wigan, who have also survived the drop, and also have a manager with strong ties to United. Steve Bruce was at Old Trafford for nine years and would certainly rather the title went to his former side than the Londoners. However, Wigan's 2-0 defeat of an Aston Villa side still in the hunt for a Uefa Cup place suggests that Bruce's side might not roll over quite as easily as West Ham did so embarrassingly last weekend.

United have not been playing to the best of their ability over recent weeks – even the 4-1 thrashing of the Hammers owed more to the dire defending of their opponents than any strong showing on their part – but they will have enough to win at Wigan and take the title for a 17th time. This has been an extraordinary season for Cristiano Ronaldo and it's well worth backing him to add to his 40-goal tally on Sunday. He is 5/2 to net the first goal of the game and 4/5 to outscore Emile Heskey, who has plundered just four goals.

There is not much value to be found in backing either 1/4 United or 1/6 Chelsea but the two can be used as bankers in a multiple bet along with Aston Villa, who are still vying for fifth place. Their defeat to Wigan was hugely damaging to their Uefa Cup hopes as Everton, as expected, lost at Arsenal but Martin O'Neill will have worked on motivating his side, who have had a magnificent season, to manage one last win against a West Ham side, who look like they began their summer holidays in March.

Their capitulation at Old Trafford last week was woeful and Villa can capitalise on the fact they are facing one of the worst form teams in the English top-flight at present. Villa are a best-priced 13/10 to topple Alan Curbishley's men.

Fulham fans are also in for a nail-biting end to their season and, with their destiny at last in their own hands, can make the most of Portsmouth's slump in form. Pompey's motivation died the moment they reached the FA Cup final: Harry Redknapp's side haven't won for five games – and that victory was a 1-0 win over West Ham.

Fulham, on the other hand, are finally showing belief and, revitalised by the return from injury of Brian McBride and Jimmy Bullard, the Cottagers have won three of their last four league games.
