Ronaldo joint favourite for next season's Golden Boot
May 13, 2008 - Tom Williams

Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo capped a remarkable scoring record in this season's Premier League with another goal on Sunday to finish seven clear in the Golden Boot race, but he is only joint favourite to top next season's Premier League charts.

Ronaldo, who is 9/2 to better his tally of 31 next season, shares the 5/1 favouritism with Liverpool forward Fernando Torres, who scored 24 league goals and 33 in all competitions this season in his first year at the Anfield club despite only being a 16/1 shot to top the charts last August.
Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor is seen to be the closest challenger to the pair in the Golden Boot market at 9/1 third favourite with Frenchman Nicolas Anelka at 10/1 as the much-travelled striker prepares to take over as the main spearhead of Chelsea's attack with the rumoured imminent departure of Didier Drogba, who is not offered at any price.
Top Englishman in the betting is United striker Wayne Rooney who is available at 14/1 after forming a third of the deadly trio alongside Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, who guided United to a 17th Premier League title.
Bookmakers are already speculating on how many more titles the 67-year-old Sir Alex Ferguson will win after bagging his tenth on Sunday. Ferguson's side are evens to overhaul Liverpool's 18 with the Scotsman in charge while he is 8/1 to win at least another three titles.
United are offered at just 100/1 to win the quadruple next season, and they are 4/1 to win the FA Cup and 6/1 to lift the Carling Cup.
