Thanks to his earth-shattering win in Brazil last Sunday, Lewis Hamilton has captured the F1 Title for the season and subsequently became the outright favourite to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award for 2008. Despite this being an Olympic year and an Man U having captured the Champions League, the 23-year is the out and out favourite to bring home the coveted sports personality award. He is listed at 4-7.

LONG SHOTS

Kevin Pietersen, listed at 125-1, effectively ruled himself out of the award thanks to the England team's acquiescence of the Stanford Super Series match although he may come back into the running if England have a successful test series in India.

Tennis phenom Andy Murray will be in the running thanks to his breakout year. However, he is listed at a long 33-1 to beat Hamilton to the title.

CLOSE COMPETITION

English swimming sensation Rebecca Adlington won two gold medals at the 2008 Olympics and is listed as second favourite at 9-4. Chris Hoy, cyclist extraordinaire, is listed in third place at 6-1. According to the odds at Paddy Power, these are the only two athletes that are likely to unseat Hamilton in his quest for the title.
