Newmarket Saturday Betting Preview PT 3

A real wildcard in here is Unforgiving Minute who lines up for Clive Cox’s yard and looks very interesting despite making a seasonal debut here. To close out his 2014 campaign, the four-year-old Cape Cross colt was able to rattle off three wins in a row - two of which came as the betting favourite - and they wouldn’t have spotted him here if they didn’t think he could win this race.

The punters seem confident and they’ve got him priced down all the way to 8/1 as he looks to kick off 2015 with a serious bang.

The angle here is that he’s cutting back in distance from the 1m1f he raced at last time and, since he’s an Indian Charlie, he’s unlikely to really do that well past 8 panels so the return to 1m is likely the right thing for him at exactly the correct time.

The second race of the day is the Group 2 Superlative Stakes and the field of nine looks like virtually anybody can win in this 2yo contest going 7f. Air Vice Marshall lines up for Aidan O’Brien and the War Front colt looked really good when getting off the mark at Gowran Park a...

A full slate of thoroughbred racing action awaits us tomorrow at Newmarket on July Cup day as the July Meeting really starts to enter full swing. There is going to be plenty of excellent wagering opportunities going on so you can expect plenty of very interesting permutations in terms of results. The volume is expected to be large on the day and with Wimbledon and the Ashes both underway as well it really starts to feel like the pinnacle of the English summer sporting season.

Prior to that they had him out handicapping and he picked off a few nice ones against larger fields at tracks like Doncaster and York. His only previous effort at Newmarket was in a Class 3 two years ago where he was beaten by none other than Lancelot Du Lac, of all horses.

The biggest name in the market right now, however, is definitely going to be Sole Power - the globetrotting sprinting superstar continues to do battle at the top level and he’s coming in off a credible fifth place in the King’s Stand but he’ll be looking to improve on that here despite the fact...

He’s won Group 1, 2 and 3 races and delivered a nice payout for the punters who backed him on that day at Royal Ascot with a hefty 10/1 payout in that deep field of 18 contenders.

Looking at Muhaarar’s formline, you’ll noticed that in his Group 3 victory at Newbury on his seasonal debut, he was bumped at the start yet still came back to win by a nose at a price of 16/1. This shows that he knows how to win and can overcome adversity in races against decent competition.

He finished third in the Middle Park Stakes last season and looks to be a exciting colt who will be emerging in the...

It is looking like Godolphin will be hoping it’s second time lucky for Brazen Beau as his second chance at winning a Group 1 in England is to come just after he was denied in epic fashion during the Royal Ascot meeting. He is in an absolutely straight-up shoot out or the favourites position in the widely-anticipated 6f contest and he’ll be looking to avenge that half-length loss to Undrafted in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes.

Free Eagle and Pat Smullen have forged a very impressive bond over their five race history together and that was the first Group 1 clash for the Moyglare Stud-owned four-year-old. They finished third to Noble Mission in the Champions Stakes when sent off at 5/2 and one has to wonder whether they will opt for the Arc instead this year or perhaps attempt a quick fire double.

The odds then take a pretty considerable jump into each-way territory when you get to Kingston Hill who trades anywhere from 16/1 to 25/1 with most major bookmakers and he’s been off...

Right now, most books are offering 2/1 but some are still leaving Treve up at a respectable 5/2 and with one other run expected prior to the Arc and no real fitness issues coming to light, the ante post wager should be relatively secure in terms of her actually making it into the starting gate on the day of the big race. There are still 24 others in the mix right now though.

Things are really starting to heat up for the Arc De Triomphe right now as living legend Treve kept her campaign off to a sensational undefeated start as she romped home in the Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud with usual jock Thierry Jarnet in the irons. She will be going for an unprecedented three-peat of the Arc and this top mare boasts both the physical stature and winning attitude that it’s going to take to secure a coveted triple of Europe’s de facto biggest flat race.

He also put a real feather in his cap on his seasonal debut this year when he managed to finish second to the very respected Solow in the Dubai Turf. Desite being four lengths or so off the pace and sent out of the gates as the 6/4 favourite, Solow has proven to be slightly different gravy and finishing second to him is really not denigrating The Grey Gatsby.

The winner of last year’s Prix Du Jockey Club and the Irish Champions Stakes at Leopardstown, The Grey Gatsby comes into the race with some bookmakers listing him as high as a 6/1 margin but the vast majority of the others pricing him much closer to the 5/...
