The last Brit to win this race was David Coulthard some eight years ago and with Ferrari beginning to dominate both the F1 Drivers and Constructors Championships this year, Lewis Hamilton will be determined to be the next.  After a rollercoaster first season in the sport, Hamilton was being hailed as the successor to British legends of the sport Jackie Stewart, Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill.

However after relinquishing his grip on last season's title when it seemed easier to win it, Hamilton has struggled this time around to find consistency.   A failure to make the podium here would prove a potentially fatal blow to Hamilton's Championship aspirations and he looks short enough, especially considering he failed to win the race last year despite having pole position.

BMW have apparently cemented their position as third best of the constructors, and Robert Kubica can be relied upon to put in another solid performance to add to his 46 points so far this season.  A repeat of his Canadian victory seems unlikely though, and as such most bookies see this race as a three horse race between the two Ferrari drivers and Hamilton. Despite the home advantage factor and Hamilton's impressive performances in practice last week, the smart money will be with a Ferrari team who have taken this race in four of its last six runnings.

Raikkonen's price lacks appeal at around the 11/8, 6/4 mark and the value appears to be with his teammate Felipe Massa.  Given the fact that the preference split between 'first' and 'second string' drivers at Ferrari seems less pronounced than at other teams, it is difficult to see why Raikkonen is consistently such shorter odds than his teammate.  The Brazilian isn't leading this year's Driver's Championship for nothing; his driving has been brilliant this season and he can follow up on his French success by taking victory at Silverstone.   Heavy rain is being forecast across the UK over the next few days and Silverstone looks likely to be affected.  5/4 about the appearance of the safety car during the race seems more than fair.

Recommendations:
Massa to win the race - 3/1 Generally (4.5 betfair)
Safety Car? Yes - 5/4 Skybet (2.25 betfair)
