Dubai World Cup Set to Smash Previous Betting Numbers

It's set to be a record-breaking eight race card as the 2012 Dubai World Cup is now less than 24 hours away. The latest betting numbers indicate that well over £10 million pounds will be bet with UK-based bookmakers with global pools continuing to swell as nearly every continent now allows online and tote-based wagering on the Meydan card.

The de facto richest race in the world is the focus of the card with £10 million pounds up for grabs to the top finisher. However, a full £25 million pounds is available to be won throughout the entirety of the card with the Golden Shaheen and the Duty Dubai Duty Free ranking amongst the other popular encounters slated for the day's action.

A world championship race for Arabians will open the card, which is set to kick off at around 4:30 local time.

Virtually every major racing jurisdiction is represented with several very interesting last minute moves taking place. Chechen... ruler... Ramzyn Kadyrov has had to withdraw his World Cup entry Gitano Hernando and this is likely what prompted him to make an approach for German runner Zazou in a last minute deal finished up midway through the week.

Zazou, not to be confused with the American-based filly Zazu, has genuine World Cup claims having disposed of Arc winner Cirrus Des Aigles when running on dirt last year.

The betting favourite for the day's feature is the Aidan O'Brien-trained New Zealand-bred superstar So You Think who has now been bet down as low as 5/2 in the global pools. Last seen finishing sixth in the 2011 Breeders' Cup Classic over the dirt track at Churchill Downs, he has been pointed at this one for some time and is expected to take to the Meydan Tapeta strip with more verve than he showed for the testing surface in Kentucky.

Other notables for the feature include multiple upstart winner Capponi at 17/1 with America represented in the Classic by Bob Baffert's Game On Dude, featuring the races' first female jockey Chantal Sutherland, as well as a filly named Royal Delta – the reigning Breeders' Cup Ladies Classic Champion. She was acquired two days after that victory for a massive $8,500,000 sum and left in training – pointing specifically to this race.
