England to Face Wales in Euro Qualifier

England face off against Wales on Tuesday but the fixture is already starting to be overshadowed by recent comments by Fabio Capello directed at multi-million pound Liverpool signing Andy Carroll. Selected for the bench in the opening fixture on Friday, Carroll does not look set to feature on Tuesday and Capello warned that a summer spent partying it up in the Caribbean could be coming back to bite the English striker.

Speaking to the media, Capello elaborated “I don't know anything about his lifestyle. It is a private problem that I never spoke about. But if he wants to be a good player and a good sportsman, he needs to drink less than the others.”

The Italian pulled no punches by being so blunt in his statements and it appears as though Carroll must try harder if he's going to add to the account he opened in his debut against Ghana. A summer spent coping with injury obviously has not helped Carroll and he does appear to be considerably unfit.

Capello balanced his criticism with an appreciation for the effort that Carroll has shown in the last few training sessions.

England are heavy favourites to dispose of Wales in a relatively orderly fashion with most major bookmakers pricing England as low as 1/6 or 1/7 for the outright score while Wales can be backed at upwards of 14/1.

Wayne Rooney is considered the favourite to score in this one and there remains a real chance that England could try to run up the score on Wales if they get a few goals ahead early on. Look for the likes of Lampard and Defoe to be called upon in this fixture.

Ashley Young should be set to continue his swashbuckling partnership with Rooney up front if Defoe is not selected to start. As usual, punters looking for value in the scoring markets will do well to back England defenders – who can be counted on to come up for nearly every corner – for the anytime goal.
