Many observers might be convinced that Chelsea have potentially turned the corner after pulling off a relatively necessary 2-0 result against Arsenal in the opening fixture that kicked off the Saturday morning card.

There was lots to like there if you were a Chelsea fan – namely three points – after Diego Costa produced some gamesmanship that ultimately helped his side secure the result. It may be looked at as a potential turning point brought to you by Chelsea being Chelsea.

The Blues remain mired in fifteenth place right now though with the two Manchester clubs topping the table and just a mere two points between them both. For all the stick that pundits and football observers have given to Louis Van Gaal after United have turned in some rather up and down performances this year, they are only two points off City – who dropped a match against West Ham on Saturday – and the two clubs nipping at the Red Devils heels are West Ham and Leicester City for cryingout loud.

It seems as though things are definitely going to interesting at the top of the table once the end of the English Premier League season rolls around. One has to imagine that, for the neutral, nothing would be better than seeing two former mid-table and relegation candidates punching it out for European slots that would see them take on some of the continent's best clubs.

It would truly be proof positive that the money that has gone flowing into the league thanks to the new global television deals has had the benefit of making English clubs more competitive and not just the top sides.
