This years iteration of the contest looks to be fairly wide open with a few sides competing for the spot as tournament favourites. A lot of punters seem to be leaning in the direction of the German side and you can bank on them to do their best to capitalize on the excellent run of results they had at the World Cup two years ago.

France have been a bit up and down in international play over the last decade or so, having busted out of a few tournaments way too early. This year they have the advantage of a robust crowd backing them up on home turf so many are expecting them to push things all the way and make a real statement going forward into the next stages of the competition.

France go into their opener against Romania as the distinct favourites with a good portion of bookmakers pricing them at a slim 4/11 margin to take the outright victory in front of their home fans and start the competition off with a serious bang. Romania, to their credit, are no slouches and they are a technical side that works hard and can be difficult to break down even if they lack superstar names on their teamsheet.

There are a number of solid, workmanlike players lining up for the eastern european side and it will be interesting if they are able to score first since then we will have a pretty accurate portrait of what France are really made of.

Several bookmakers have Romania trading as high as a 10/1 margin for the outright victory here against the French while the draw sits at a relatively reasonable price of about 7/2. If things don't get off to a lightning quick start and the Romanians are able to stay organized then that might be a very solid selection – particularly as an in-play wager.
