Frankel To Walk The Sussex Stakes

It certainly isn't going to make for any excessive competition or anything but Frankel is setting himself up for what looks to be an old-fashioned walk in the park as only three competitors are set to face off against him in the 2012 Sussex Stakes this Wednesday – and one of those horses is his pace-maker Bullet Train.

Godolphin are going to be entering their upstart four-year-old Farhh, who ran just a half-length behind Nathaniel in the 2012 Coral Eclipse at Sandown. This will be Farhh's Goodwood debut and he will get Dettori in the irons for this one once again – but you just have to wonder what it's going to take for him to actually pull off the upset of all upsets.

With fewer contenders in the mix, Frankel may opt to take hold of this one especially early and he might find himself getting into a spot of trouble – even if that seems unlikely.

With many horses, you would initially think that betting against them would make sense as they can always make a mistake or have an error at the gate or simply not run to their proven ability. This just doesn't seem to be the case with Frankel, as the only real blemish on his record was the thing margin of victory at Royal Ascot back in 2011 when he only just managed to scrape victory after a bit of an odd ride from Tom Queally.

Farhh was a successful handicapper who moves on to the Golden Jubilee Stakes to finish third behind So You Think and Carlton House. He then went very close in his next Group 1 effort as he pushed Nathaniel all the way, despite being sent off as the 11/4 favourite.

Tackling Frankel at a mile isn't a bad idea at this point for the Blue Team but bookmakers seem relatively unconvinced with Farhh's ability to topple horse racing's undisputed star. Frankel is trading at a microscopic 1/20 with some bookmakers for this one while Farhh can must a price of around 9/1.

The relatively unknown Gabrial, who finished fifth in the St James' Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, is the other contender aside from Bullet Train to line up in this one.
