Kaymer and Donald Face Off in Match Play Final

Martin Kaymer’s win over Bubba Watson made him the number one player in the world and now he’ll take on Luke Donald in hopes of making it a double weekend in first spot at the Accenture Match Play Championship.  Both men tee off at even on the betting board.

Kaymer had to work the full 18 holes on Saturday afternoon to eliminate Bubba Watson 1-up, as the German struggled early with his driver, but eventually settled in and got things ironed out before his wayward tee balls cost him a spot in the final.

Kaymer has won his last three matches by just four total holes, so he’s been working hard to get by his opponents.  It could be surmised that eventually all this play could take a toll on his energy level as he heads to what will be his hardest match of the week.

Regardless, Kaymer is young, so energy shouldn’t be too much of a problem and if he is in fact a bit fatigued that should be offset by the career changing accomplishment of making to number one.

Donald has been much more dominant over the past couple days and, if he was playing anyone other than the new world number one, it would make sense that he would at least be the betting favourite.

The Englishman shouldn’t have any fatigue problems in the final as he hasn’t played past the 14th hole in his last two matches.

Furthermore, he’s shown some serious game in beating Kuchar 6 and 5 on Saturday afternoon after dismissing Ryan Moore 5 and 4 in the morning.

It wouldn’t be an outrage to take Donald based these most recent stellar results, but Kaymer is going to be on a mission to show he’s able to live up to his number one billing.  Thus, even money on both players is really the best the lines can be.
