Long Run Eased for Cheltenham Gold Cup

Long Run remains the favourite for the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup with the sponsors after winning the Betfair Denman Chase at Newbury on Friday but he has been eased in the market after producing a workmanlike performance to beat Burton Port by half a length.

The winner now heads the market at 5/2 (from 2/1) whilst Kauto Star has been cut to 3/1 (from 7/2). The runner-up is now 14/1 (from 33/1) for the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup and has also been cut to 16/1 (from 25/1) for the John Smith’s Grand National.

Punters shouldn't expect him to run in the National however.

“Although it was a workmanlike performance from Long Run, he battled on well to win the Denman Chase at Newbury and he still clings on to Gold Cup favouritism despite easing in the market,” said Betfred spokesman George Primarolo.

Gold Cup sponsors Betfred still believe that last year’s winner will go off favourite for the race and make him 8/11 to do so. Kauto Star is even money to be returned the Gold Cup jolly.

Elsewhere on the card, Sprinter Sacre is now the 11/8 favourite (from 9/4) with Betfred for the Racing Post Arkle after impressing in the Betfair Super Saturday Chase. Peddlers Cross has been eased to 7/2 (from 3/1) behind the favourite with Al Ferof the 5/1 third-favourite.

Zarkandar advertised his Champion Hurdle claims by winning the Betfair Hurdle and has been cut to 6/1 (from 7/1) by Betfred behind odds-on favourite Hurricane Fly.
