The crucial fact is that Allardyce genuinely wants the job and will be looking to use this to make a big statement. He has previously made mention that he shouldn't be managing the Sunderlands and Wigan Athletic's of the world and instead should be managing top clubs like Real Madrid or Juventus. Clearly being selected for the England role will fit into the frame of mind that Sam Allardyce has for himself and his abilities.

There are still plenty of other outside contenders who could emerge as the main selection for England manager but it's going to take some doing since Allardyce has all of the momentum right now – particularly in the betting markets.

Both Eddie Howe and Glenn Hoddle are remaining at a single digit price with Howe trading as high as 12/1 with several bookmakers but a number of others putting him at a solid 8/1 listing. Hoddle is in a similar situation with several pricing him as high as a 14/1 margin but a few floating him at a decent price of 9/1.

It's also worth mentioning that Guus Hiddink has declared that he would be interested in the job and this has excited a lot of England fans who don't so much care about having an English manager but instead prefer to have the best candidate posible. Hiddink has won basically everything that here is out to be won and he would stand England in good stead to move forward and have a genuine go at winning in Russia shortly.

As it currently stands, you can back Hiddink anywhere from a 22/1 price all the way down to a slim price of 8/1 with several top bookmakers.

Harry Redknapp had also been considered a strong candidate for quite some time but his odds have cooled off pretty dramatically in the past few days with most prices on him hovering around a 12/1 margin all the way up to a 25/1 margin. Former PSG manager Laurent Blanc is another contender who has been popular and he can be backed at a price as high as 33/1.
