Odds on Presidential favourite Barack Obama are being cut again as John McCain's slash-and-burn hatemongering tactics are backfiring dramatically. Many would have placed an Obama victory as improbable a year ago and now Barry Obama is on the verge of an absolutely epic win. With Hurricane Palin shoring up support only amongst evangelicals and "hockey moms" who presumably don't know how to read a newspaper, the Obama/Biden ticket is looking stronger by the day- a concept confirmed by recent polling.

Irish bookmaker Paddy Power is now listing McCain as a 10/3 longshot to secure the office of the Presidency. The looming spectre of financial disaster has cast a shadow over the race with odds now being laid at 40/1 that the election itself will be cancelled. Only the Cheney-ist of power plays will see that happening. Palin being withdrawn from the ticket is still relatively juicy with 10/1 odds.

Handicapping seems to be pointing towards a margin of at least 110 electoral votes for the Obama win. If both candidates are deadlocked on election eve at 269-269 (which would then require a vote in the House of Representatives) then Paddy is paying out at 33/1.
