PDC World Darts Championship Semi Final Tips

Yesterday saw some of the hottest action of the entire tournament unfold at the PDC World Darts Championships. After a few days of relative blow-outs and few fixtures to genuinely write home about, we saw two incredible duels as James Wade just squeaked out a victory while Michael Vam Gerwen literally took it down to the last leg as he defeated defending champion Adrian Lewis.

To his credit, Lewis was never really quite as in control of the match as Van Gerwen was and, though we didn’t see another incredible nine dart leg from the young Dutchman, we did see a display of tenacity and precision that sets him up nicely heading into these next fixtures.

Van Gerwen gets the plum draw of facing off against James Wade - a player who was never really convincing in his quarter final match. Wade spent much of the match in damage control and barely even had a shot at securing a 180, much less actually getting one.

Wade was able to do what he does best though - that’s winning key moments in tight matches. He seldom really blows away his competition but he has a habit of just eeking out victories by never really falling behind by too much and surging at opportune times.

It goes without saying that Michael Van Gerwen is the betting favourite heading into the first match today in London and he’s trading as short as 1/5 with most major bookmakers. Wade will pay out an impressive 7/2 margin and he’ll probably be taking a bit of money from punters though you reckon that those looking to play spoilers will opt for a punt on Raymond Van Barneveld, as it’s tough to bet against the young upstart Dutchman.

The bookmakers have set the handicap line at (-2.5) for the first match-up of the day and Van Gerwen to overcome the handicap is still the odds-on selection, paying out at a 4/6 margin. Taking the points on Wade still rewards at 11/10 and that may not be a bad wager - especially as Wade tends to keep things close.
