Premier League Opening Weekend Specials

Despite the best efforts of a generation of classless, opportunistic yobs and outright criminals; there is a good chance that this weekend's English Premier League fixtures will go ahead. If the bookmakers are to be believed, punters should expect Manchester City to be on top of the table by weekend's end and they're floating a price of 3/1 for that result.

Liverpool, boasting a completely revamped offensive unit, are the second favourite to top the table at the end of week one. You'll find them priced at 9/2 while Manchester United, the significant outright favourite for the title this year, is priced at 6/1.

Swansea appear to be the hefty favourite to prop up the table at the end of the first weekend with a price of 11/4 listed at the time of this writing. You'll find that Sunderland are available at 9/2, which might concern some Black Cat fans, while West Brom and Stoke City are at 6/1 and 7/1, respectively.

The basic wager boils down to which fixture you think will produce the most lopsided result. A victory by four goals or more would certainly do the trick so it's all a matter of figuring out which match it's going to be.

Swansea face off against City on Monday and that's the one that's favoured to produce the most lopsided result. However, should Manchester United be able to pull off a victory on Sunday away to West Brom, they could likely do it by replicating the attacking prowess they showed in the second half of the Community Shield against City.

A buoyant Manchester United side full of verve could easily put 5 past the West Brom defensive unit if they can shake their confidence early and nip a quick goal or two.

The real value would come from an outsized result in a fixture like Fulham vs Wigan or Wolves vs Blackburn. You'd be looking at prices of around 16/1 or 20/1 for teams like that to be topping the table at the end of week one.
