Rosenborg v Arsenal Stan James Analysis

I suspect that every football fan in this country, would not begrudge this Arsenal side, the Champions League Trophy at the end of the season. To a person you'd have to agree that this teams contribution to the beautiful game, deserves the ultimate prize. The quality of their football takes the breath away at times and can destroy opposing teams. But deserving something and actually getting it are two different things….and if this is their year, then the nitty gritty games like this one against Rosenborg are the key.

But beware. Rosenborg are one of those funny teams that have a habit of surprising teams when they least expect it. The club has a great deal of experience in European competitions and at 4/1 with Stan James tonight….at home….they could be worth a bet. But do not be under any illusions about the enormity of the task. This is a great Arsenal side, but you suspect that at some point their luck will run out and they'll get turned over. It's a tricky place to go to Rosenborg. They are currently winning their domestic league, which is nearly over now, so they will be solid as a unit, and will use every advantage they can in the book. But I suppose it's doing The Gunners a disservice to suggest that they'll come unstuck tonight. You just get this sneaky feeling, that if it does happen, it'll be somewhere like Rosenborg.

The team news is that Dennis Bergkamp can't make it as usual due to his….somewhat ridiculous….phobia to flying. We shouldn't mock, but you get the feeling that if he tried it, he'd be like a five year old, who after overcoming his initial fear, would be deliriously happy to do it over and over again. Gilberta Silva is also missing, but the return of Sol Campbell will add that bit of steel. But it will be a strong Arsenal side….their squad is so good….and this could be just another demolition job. If you think so, then Arsenal half time/full time at 6/4, or Arsenal -1 goal at 13/8, are betting options. Reyes, praised by Wenger this week, to score first is 4/1, and anytime is 11/10…..I just have that funny feeling about tonight……
