After a magnificent 3-0 semi-final first leg win over Bremen, the new favourites for the UEFA Cup are Espanyol (6/4 Ladbrokes) who have one foot in Glasgow’s final next month.

However, the other semi between Sevilla and Osasuna is more finely balanced after the latter triumphed 1-0 in Pamplona to set up a fascinating second leg battle. As a result, Sevilla’s odds about them retaining their UEFA Cup title drifted with most firms and they can now be backed at 7/4 (William Hill) for back-to-back successes.

There are many reasons for thinking this is a decent price, especially when you look at the Primera Liga table, where Joaquin Caparros’ men are positioned in second place, some twenty-two points ahead of Osasuna. They are also sixteen points clear of Espanyol, meaning they’d be strong favourites if they managed to book a place in the Glasgow final.

Osasuna missed several good chances to form a much bigger first leg advantage and now have to travel to the Spanish high-flyers and succeed where so many teams have failed this campaign. If you think they can hang on, they are Evens with Coral to record a historic final berth in Glasgow and 7/2 (bet365) to win the trophy.
