Wayne Rooney Looking Certain to Stay at United

With the latest news coming out of Manchester United being the unfortunate announcement that Thiago Alcantera will not be joining the club, David Moyes has also confirmed that nothing will be done about Wayne Rooney’s future until a year from now as he is required to provide cover for Robin Van Persie.

Wayne Rooney was sent home from England’s tour of Thailand (which got off to a very inauspicious start) after picking up an injury which will rule him out for a month and also make his pre-season preparations thrown off for the interim.

With Rooney not looking likely to get a full pre-season of training under his belt, it looks very unlikely that any other sides are going to come out and make a move for him. Despite some noise coming from several different clubs over the past couple of months - Arsenal, Chelsea and PSG being the most notable - it now looks nearly certain that Wazza will still be plying his trade at Old Trafford in the 2013/14 English Premier League season.

As it currently stands, the bookmakers have priced Rooney at a 4/9 listing to remain at United until September 3rd, 2013. If Rooney is going to leave it looks like Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea side are the only other team who look capable of actually picking up Rooney as they trade at a 6/4 price and remain the only other plausible contender if you’re using the bookmakers as a metric.

PSG are 8/1 to secure the services of Wayne Rooney but prohibitive French taxes would make it less appealing for Rooney to venture across the Channel. Arsenal had previously been quite hot to trot about Rooney but have since cooled off considerably. United now look ready to submit another bid on Cesc Fabregas as Arsenal have first refusal on him it may lead to a deal being discussed over the signature of Wayne Rooney.

This is likely to only way that Rooney actually leaves the club so if you’re going to back anyone other than United in this market, the Gunners are your best choice.
