Ante Post Alert: Frankel and Uncle Mo Double Floating at 10/1
- By A.J. Ryder on February 7, 2011 20:10 GMTThe upcoming focal point of the flat racing season on both sides of the Atlantic has produced two extremely high-profile contenders that have been drawing plaudits from all angles since their impressive two year-old campaigns wound down last fall.
The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie) is still yet to make his state-side debut as a three year-old but all eyes are firmly focused on his anticipated run in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby as he looks to secure his derby slot with a minimum of fuss.
Frankel (Galileo) is considered to be the best young contender on the grass as the undefeated bay colt picked up the Group 2 Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes at Ascot and followed it up with a smashing score in the Group 1 Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.
May 7 is the big day for both colts as the 2000 Guineas and Kentucky Derby continue to unfold on the same day. With ante post markets being floated for both races, a number of bookmakers boast tremendous prices on multiple long-range wagers. The ante post market is always a bit dodgy, especially three months out from the big contests, but these two contenders definitely deserve some respect and there will likely be a class of punter lookin to lock in the current prices.
It does go without saying that the ante post wagering being bandied about on Frankel are a bit ridiculous at 5/4. You’d be looking for much more value most times, but he’ll be extremely short-priced on May 7 unless there looks to be some type of concern over his general well-being, which looks doubtful at this point. Ask anybody who got burned by St. Nicholas Abbey (Montjeu), who ran sixth in the Guineas and hasn’t been seen since.
The bet is there for the taking and coupling it up with Uncle Mo rewards at slightly over 10/1 with Ladbrokes. Frankel to take the Guineas and Holy Bull-winner Dialed In (Mineshaft) rewards at an impressive 29/1 while a Frankel Guineas win coupled with a Derby victory for flashy front-runner Tapizar (Tapit) pays a 37/1 dividend.
Since we’re already going completely wild on long-range bets, consider Frankel in the Guineas, Uncle Mo in the Big Dance with Imperial Commander to top the Cheltenham Gold Cup and you’re looking at a hefty 50/1 payday on a trio of justifiable favourites.
