2000 Guineas Betting Preview Pt 1
- By A.J. Ryder on April 29, 2014 18:28 GMTThe big race looms even bigger as the 2000 Guineas this year looks likely to anchor a massive Scoop6 rollover expected to top 5 million in sterling. There is a lot to like about the race itself and we have a few very interesting challengers stepping up to take on the likes of Kingman as the first race in the English Classic season gets the flat season well and truly underway.

The going at Newmarket is expected to be good to firm at this point and it’s not really going to take any of the genuine standouts in or out of contention based solely on that prospect.
The Juddmonte-bred Kingman is trading at a very competitive ante post price of 11/10 and it will be interesting to see how his price actually fluctuates on the day - particularly in the last twenty minutes or so after we’ve actually been able to see them make their pre-race appearances.
Undefeated in three starts, Kingman boasts an impressive turn of foot that he has usually saved until the last furlong or so before he whips to the front and disposes of his competition. The word “impressive” reads prominently at the end of most of his comment lines. While his victories have only come in a Newmarket maiden and a pair of Group 3 contests, his professionalism really doesn’t look to have been genuinely tested up to this point.
Aidan O’Brien saddles a group of very interesting challengers and it has emerged that Australia is the betting choice for the second place ante post market leader and he is a bit more of a wildcard considering the fact that he is using the race as a seasonal debut and springboard on to the Epsom Derby.
He is likely to relish that distance a bit more than this one, but it’s really all down to how he has moved forward over his lengthy break and whether his impressive physical improvements will be matched by the necessary uptick in racing ability and precociousness.
