2000 Guineas Betting Preview Pt 2

The most short-priced Group 1 winner in the mix appears to be the talented Toormore who lines up for Richard Hannon. He captrued the Vincent O’Brien Stakes by nearly three lengths back in mid-September of 2013 when sent off at even money against a fairly competitive field of five. Notably, he got the better of Breeders’ Cup winner Outstrip when he raced in a Group 2 contest at Goodwood back in late July.

With a price hovering around 7/1 at the moment, you can expect Toormore to quietly build up some steam in the market as we get closer to the race itself.

It’s worth keeping your eyes on the likes of Kingston Hill as well with the bookmakers pricing him just a shade behind Toormore at an 8/1 listing. Roger Varian’s talented son of Mastercraftsman notably got the better of Epsom Derby contender Johann Strauss at Doncaster in the Racing Post Trophy. There are no questions about whether Kingston Hill will be able to handle the distance or not and it really looks like he will have come on and grown a bit since his three-race stint last year which lasted just over a month. He closed out his season undefeated with a Group 3 score at Newmarket over a very respectable eight horse field that includes the likes of Oklahoma City, Safety Check and God Willing.

Able to score at a quality price of 15/2 in that 1m contest, this is a horse who will definitely be campaigned towards the Irish Derby as evidenced by his early closer entry that continues to stand today.

War Command had long been a prominent contender at the top of the ante post market but he has now drifted out to an 8/1 price tag with the emergence of so many talented-looking three-year-old contenders. The Dubai Dewhurst winner is a multiple Group 2 winner in addition to that high-profile Group 1 score at Newmarket back in mid-October of last year.
