2000 Guineas Betting Preview Pt 2

In his best race, run at Leopardstown back in early September, he travelled quite close to the pace and it will be interesting to see if he is up there pressing early in the 2000 Guineas. Joseph will likely try to get into somebody’s slipstream early on and with the right type of pace scenario it could get very interesting for Australia extremely quickly.

One of the best partnerships in flat racing anywhere on the planet - Hannon/Hughes - step into the mix with Toormore. He won the Craven Stakes by a two length margin over a solid field of runners and you can expect him to kick on nicely here. It’s also very possible that he will be enhanced by being turned out relatively quickly - something that is made apparent by looking at his pedigree. 

Punters will find Toormore hovering around the 5/1 margin right now with most major bookmakers. 

War Command was the big buzz horse to finish off last year’s season when he captured the Dewhurst at Newmarket to secure his status as a Group 1 winner. He has won a pair of Group 2’s and is also Group 1 placed and if he has improved over the winter break then he is very much giving an incredible price to punters. 

It may have really helped him out that he hasn’t run since then as there is now an element of mystery over him and he is, perhaps, a little overshadowed by Australia as O’Brien’s other entry. With a listing hovering around 9/1 at the moment with a number of popular bookmakers it may wind up being the steal of the century - but that is based on the horse moving forward. 

Roger Varian’s Kingston Hill rounds out the favoured contenders and is now priced at a 10/1 listing. He got the better of Johann Strauss, who looks to be pointed at the Epsom Derby now, back in the Racing Post Trophy in late October. Now a Group 1 winner, he may be one that has been overlooked as he really isn’t a buzz horse - but clearly hasn’t done anything wrong up to this point.
