2000 Guineas Each-Way Contenders PT 1

The build-up towards the 2015 2000 Guineas has been an exciting one and things are getting more interesting by the day as we see withdrawals and confirmations starting to pile up quickly. Just today, the potential American contender Hootenanny - who was victorious for Wesley Ward at last year’s Royal Ascot meeting - was removed from the running following his easy score in an allowance race at Keeneland race track in Lexington, Kentucky this past weekend.

Much of the chatter has been about the build-up on Gleneagles as the punters have him backed down as low as 6/4 with some bookmakers while others continue to hold fast at a 2/1 price or slightly higher.

The average price right now on the Guineas favourite - who only has a single loss in his record with a fourth place finish at Leopardstown on his career debut. He was also disqualified at Longchamp last year in the Grand Critierium and placed third behind Full Mast after being ruled that he interfered on the run-in.

The Galileo colt, out of a Storm Cat Mare named You’resothrilling, continues to gain momentum as we get closer to the first Classic of the season. However, it’s worth taking a look at the ante post wagering prices on some of the longer-odds contenders if you really want to get a better gauge on securing a decent price if you reckon that Gleneagles won’t be able to get the job done.

There are plenty of reasons to think that he might not be able to actually pull this off and the fact that he hasn’t had a run under his belt yet this season could be the first really strong tip-off. It’s about 50/50 with many runners here as to whether the Guineas will be their seasonal debut or not and the likes of Zawraq and Estidhkaar (who both line up for Sheikh Hamdan’s barn) are well in the reckoning and each have an attempt under their belt.
