2011 Cheltenham Festival Multi-Race Parlays
- By A.J. Ryder on March 7, 2011 18:37 GMTIt’s really easy to get carried away with multi-race parlays at Cheltenham and the biggest error that a number of punters tend to make are posting too many short-priced “bankers” and expecting them all to win when a smaller parlay ticket with fewer selections, at higher-odds, can sometimes be the right decision to make.
You can only guess the amount of big tickets that were counting on Dunguib to get things going early last year. Since younger contenders are more likely to show progression, backing a short-odds selection in a massive field of novices can be a surefire ticket to tap city.
Putting together a few parlay tickets is a fun way to make the four day event even more exciting, just be sure not to go overboard with a bunch of 8-line tickets or throwing five contenders on there at 50/1 or more.
Ticket #1
The first multi-race parlay takes two contenders who are in the mix in their respective races and pairs them up with a slightly longer-odds selection who boasts a genuine chance to score. We’ve got Hurricane Fly to get the better of Binocular in the Champion Hurdle along with the lukewarm favourite Garde Champetre to take the Glenfarclass Cross Country Chase. Also on the ticket is 12/1 fancy Albertas Run in the Ryanair Chase. These three all to score pays out around 422/1. If you’re feeling especially saucy, try tossing Big Zeb or Master Minded onto the ticket to offer up a potential 1584/1 payday for Master Minded and 1685/1 for Big Zeb.
Ticket #2
A three-race parlay is the order of the day and this is a nice option for the latter stages of the festival. Uniquely, this is an “all-run” ticket with second favourite Long Run to win the Gold Cup combined with our friend Albertas Run to conquer in the Ryanair. At the bottom of the ticket is the talented Twiston-Davies charge Baby Run. Sensing a pattern? All these three to come home pays out at 312/1.
Ticket #3
This ticket features one race from each day of the festival and we’ll be relying on two of our previous selections in this one. Look to add Hurricane Fly and Garde Champetre alongside Sam Winner in the JCB Triumph Hurdle and the short-priced Big Buck’s in the World Hurdle. Big Buck’s is considered to be the de facto “festival banker” carrying the shortest price as a favourite with a 5/4 to get the best of 2/1 Grand Crus. Sam Winner looks to be shaping up nicely for the JCB Triumph Hurdle and he’s the 8/1 fourth-favourite. The total payout here is a tidy 658/1.
