2012 Arc De Triomphe Ante Post Betting Tips

Any punters looking to place a substantial wager on Camelot, the easiest candidate for this year's outstanding three-year-old colt, will likely have to wait until October for the Longchamp showpiece. The Arc De Triomphe comes shortly before Champions Day and not particularly long after the St Leger, where Camelot is also pointed, but this is one ante post market that's going to heat up in a very serious way.

The difference in odds throughout various bookmakers isn't exactly too varied with a range spanning 5/2, 11/4 and 3/1 price tags.

Contrast that listing with Camelot's miniscule price of 1/3 for a victory in the 2012 St Leger. Should he complete the British Triple Crown, he will be coming into the Arc with plenty of confidence and momentum, but you do have to wonder about the short 3 week span between the two.

The key challenger for the Arc looks to be last year's winner Danedream as he heads back to Longchamp for the first time looking to defend his title. The German filly produced an electric performance to topple Nathaniel at Ascot in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. She was sent off that day at 9/1 and looked very good, all things considered, with a textbook tracking trip.

Punters will find Danedream anywhere from 9/2 to 7/1.

Nathaniel is also in the mix for this one and you'll find him at a very similar price to Danedream with most major bookmakers. He has been very selectively campaigned and only actually kicked off his season in the Coral Eclipse at Sandown, which he took by half a length over talented Godolphin runner Farhh. He was then nosed out by Danedream at Ascot but he will still be more fresh than many of the others ones here – especially Camelot; who has been campaigned since the spring.

St Nicholas Abbey can never be counted out and he's trading around 10/1 to take the Arc. He could only muster up a fifth place finish last year but then bounced back to win the Breeders' Cup Turf at Churchill Downs just over a month later. He scored in the Coronation Cup this year at Epsom but hasn't won anything else, despite some very tough beats.

Other notables includes Orfevre at 16/1, Sea Moon at 20/1, Imperial Monarch at 20/1 and the talented Snow Fairy can be backed as high as 50/1.
