As the clock begins winding down on the European flat season, the de facto world championships of horse racing are set to run in Arcadia, California in a few weeks time as the latest iteration of the Breeders' Cup is nearly upon us. There has been plenty of twists and turns on the American scene since Mike Smith and Drosselmeyer struck the front at Churchill Downs as the hall of fame jockey pipped his ex-fiancee Chantal Sutherland by a length or so after she had gone to the front and led most of the way.

The pair had looked slated for a rematch in this years Classic but Chantal lost the mount on Game On Dude after a lacklustre performance in the Pacific Classic, a race where Chantal dropped a reign at a crucial moment. While it may not have been that mistake that gave Dullahan the upstart victory against older colts and geldings, it certainly left a bad taste in the mouth of connections and they have opted for top west coast rider Rafael Bejerano.
The pair were sent off at 1/5 on Santa Anita's opening weekend and they won by several lengths. He wasn't up against the greatest of competition on that day and many will expect a tough contingent of shippers to show up at Santa Anita for this one. The ante post market is quite deep with some very interesting variances in prices based on whom you're looking to bet with. There is some amazing value out there for those looking to lock in good quality prices before the wagering really kicks off in earnest.
This is definitely one of those times where it pays off to have multiple accounts with multiple sites.
One of the chief reasons why the prices are so good is that the final field hasn't actually been locked down yet at this point. There are a variety of contenders in here who likely won't even ship to Santa Anita, much less actually run in the Classic. Dullahan remains one of the key selections for this one and it looks like he may not even run on the dirt - a surface in which he has never won a race. The synthetic specialist, dubbed a polytrack freak by many racing observers, trades anywhere from 7/1 to 10/1.
Wise Dan carries a 10/1 price for the Breeders' Cup but he has only actually been entered in the BC Mile - a race he likely stands a much better chance of winning. One of the best runners in America's slightly weak turf division - many consider him to be one of the best grass horses racing in the world, let alone North America.
Royal Delta is priced anywhere from 7/1 to 12/1 and it looks supremely likely that she will opt for the Ladies Classic - though that race looks to be quite deep as well. Questing, a Godolphin filly, is also in the mix here but she is a sure thing for the Friday night feature and should be avoided in Classic ante post markets.
