2012 Cesarewitch Betting Preview Part 1

36 runners are set to contest one of the biggest and deepest handicaps you'll find anywhere on the planet as the 2012 Cesarewitch is set to run at Newmarket this Saturday over its usual 2m2f distance. With the going listed at Good To Soft and the inevitable cavalry charge set to go again, this is always a race that separates the men from the boys on the Heritage Handicap circuit.

There's a lot to like about this race and it always looks good from a betting standpoint based on the sheer number of entrants.

One of the punters early choices appears to be the talented Hurricane Higgins who has gone close the past few times but hasn't actually won since besting a 20-strong field at Goodwood back at the start of August. He's had three outings since and will be looking to get things back on track now that he has Joe Fanning back in the irons for this one.

The Cesarewitch Ante Post market has Hurricane Higgins floating at a 12/1 margin and looking likely to get a fair run of money coming his way from the punters.

Olympiad is one of the few runners in this one who enters off a victory and the high-quality record of this bay colt by Galileo is why he's carrying 8-13. It should be noted that he carried 9-11 when finishing third by nine lengths in a field of nine at Galway. He was only carrying 8-10 last time out when be beat out a field of 16.

He certainly hasn't been contesting the higher-level Heritage Handicap circuit races but looks able to take the step up. There's a reason why he's 14/1 in such a deep field.

I Have A Dream is an Irish invader owned by (surprise, surprise) the Magnier & McManus outfit and it took a driving finish from the talented colt to get the victory by a neck last time out. He gets an impressive tandem in A P O'Brien as the conditioner and Ryan Moore as the pilot. Expect a serious run from this talented son of Galileo.
