2012 Champions Day Betting Tips Part 1

Frankel, a living legend in his own right, looks to be set for his final run in just a few weeks as Champions Day draws nearer. The bookmakers have battered him down to 1/10 for the last time and he looks to take on a cadre of contenders that he has all beaten before. A victory lap surely looks to be in the cards. It's just a shame he didn't opt for what turned out to be a very soft Arc De Triomphe or plan to ship stateside for the Breeders' Cup.

A match-up between Frankel and Wise Dan in the Mile at the old Santa Anita stomping grounds of his namesake Bobby Frankel would have been a legendary way to end his career but you can't really fault Sir Henry Cecil & Co as it's been clear that they have always preferred to take an undefeated horse to stud.
Don't expect much from his exchange price either as Frankel looks to be a very tough contender and isn't getting lay support anywhere.
Cirrus Des Aigles and Nathaniel are both expected to be the chief threats to Frankel's Champions Day claims with both of those horses carrying a decent 5/1 or 6/1 price tag as they head into this one. There is every chance that those prices could increase if Frankel goes off at 1/20. That's not entirely out of the question, even against the seasoned Group 1 winners he'll find here.
Cirrus Des Aigles enters off a summer-long stint at Longchamp where he mustered up an impressive nine length victory in the Qatar Prix Dollar after being disqualified from his previous race when he tested positive for a banned substance. Prior to that race he won by 8 lengths in the Group 1 Prix Ganay.
The Dubai Sheema Classic winner will look to keep moving forward here but it will take a masterful ride to dispose of Frankel.
Nathaniel captured the Coral Eclipse on his seasonal debut back in July and has been pointed towards this race for quite some time. He opted out of the Arc but will be looking to get things back on track after a pair of narrow losses at Ascot and Leopardstown. Most will concede that he is running to hit the board here against Frankel but you just might think that John Gosden might fancy a scalp here if Frankel perhaps doesn't quite get the race he wants. Aggressive tactics will be needed but Nathaniel just might be the one to get it done.
