A supremely deep field is set to contest the 2012 Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot this coming Saturday. With a full 19 entries still remaining in the mix before the final declaration stage on Wednesday, it really looks to be anybody's guess who's going to pull off the premier 6f dash of the 2012 season.

Many of the usual suspects are here for this one and you can see this one already shaping up to be a blanket finish if everybody winds up performing to expectations.
Starspangledbanner lines up for the Coolmore team in this one and it's going to be an interesting story watching this talented sprinter as he finds his way back to the race track. He had been retired to stud back in 2010 but was found to be infertile and has been placed back into training. Since returning, he has remained winless but if he can get back to the form that saw him run with so much panache years ago then it's going to be very interesting to see the result here and whether he can move forward or not.
Maarek is another one who is definitely worth keeping your eyes on. He hasn't finished off the board in his last five races and has strung together some serious results - including a victory over the aforementioned Starspangledbanner. Jamie Spencer is booked for the trip this time and the pair combined for a victory the last time they wound up getting together.
Jimmy Styles last scored at Deauville back in August and he remains one of the few contenders who actually enter the race off a victory. He had local favourite Gerald Mosse in the irons last time out and they managed to deliver at 12/1.
One of the form plays definitely looks to be Slade Power, a colt by Dutch Art who lines up for Mrs. Power. He's been off-track since mid-July but strung together a pair of short distance victories. They may not have been in flashy Group level races but you simply sometimes have to give attention to horses that know how to find the line properly. Shipping will be interesting but he was able to scored after moving to Haydock back in June and doesn't look to have any negatives in that perspective. He will certainly go off at a quality price tag.
The real wild card looks to be Delegator, who has been unlaced since the Dubai World Cup meeting at Meydan. He ran twice, capturing his first race back in February and has been off-track since late March. He certainly knows how to get the job done on his day and you can expect him to get Dettori for this one - something that will definitely add to his appeal.
