Speaking of cards, we have Cue Card on the hunt for a big score here and his price has done some serious fluctuating in the build-up to Cheltenham. He had a big attempt at the King George on Boxing Day, only to finish a tame fifth 20 lengths off the pace. His price for this race drifted out to 14/1 but now he’s back down to 8/1 after scoring at Ascot in the Grade 1 Ascot Chase.

One of the best things about Cue Card is that he’s shown the ability to make mistakes and then recover from them. You would expect him to make all early in this one and attempt to steal it. He will be well-poised to capitalize on any mistakes made by Sprinter Sacre and Sizing Europe.
Finian’s Rainbow is the next contender and his form has left a lot to be desired so far this year with two dead-last finishes in both of his efforts. He pulled off an impressive festival double last year with scores at Cheltenham in this race and the Grade 1 Melling Chase at Aintree. He needs to turn it around quickly but it’s clear that his connections still have plenty of confidence in him - he is still entered in this one so they obviously think he’s capable of beating Sprinter Sacre.
Look out for Sanctuaire at a 16/1 price tag - he was well beaten by the favourite here a few weeks ago but he can get victories on his day. He is likely in the mix for place money though and does know how to find the line.
Wishfull Thinking can also be backed at 16s and he’s coming in fresh off a Grade 2 score. He’s won at Cheltenham and tends to do well this time of year but also looks to be one who’s in the mix to hit the board here, not go for the outright score.
Somersby has been tangling with a number of the contenders lining up in this one but he’s just not the most formful horse. The son of Second Empire was last seen finishing fourth from sixth to Cue Card and that’s why he’s trading around 20/1.
Realt Dubh and Tataniano bring up the tail end of the field with prices of 25/1 and 100/1, respectively.
Prediction: Sprinter Sacre should win, but he won’t win by the margin many expect. Sizing Europe and Cue Card could be significant overlays.
