2012 St Leger Saturday at Doncaster Preview Part 2
- By A.J. Ryder on September 14, 2012 23:46 GMT
Tha'ir lines up for Godolphin and gets Frankie Dettori for this race. The son of New Approach was a beaten favourite last time out and is unraced at Doncaster. Prior to that he had Silvestre De Sousa in the irons and the switch back to Dettori for this one indicates nothing but confidence. The undefeated pair of Toronado and Unsinkable both come into this one with two wins to their credit but Toronado is getting much more play with an 11/4 compared to Unsinkable's 11/1 price.

A massive 22 strong handicap is up next with a mere 5f140y to settle the preceedings. There is some relatively back and forth form at the top end of the handicap but many will likely find themselves siding with Hallelujah who is relatively lightly-raced and has never finished of the board. She has won with Hayley Turner up and looks solid value at 9/1. She also drops down out of a Group 3 and should be a factor with a relatively clean trip and a well-run race.
Mass Rally has been knocking on the door for a while and hasn't won for a bit but could break through if he continues to move forward. He's been unlucky in his last two races, losing out by a neck and a head. Picabo is an interesting shout as is Kingsgate Choice near the bottom of the handicap. Bottom-weight Prodigality is getting the momentum from the punters and is looking likely to go off as the favourite on the back of some very favourable performances. She hasn't finished outside of the top two during her campaign this season in five outings.
The feature race runs next and it looks as though Camelot should be getting the bulk of the attention with plenty of momentum existing in the markets for John Gosden's pair of runners. Godolphin saddles Encke for this one and he should kick on nicely here while delivering at a high-quality price.
The Group 2 OLBG Park Stakes is the next race up at 4:15 and runners will be going 7f in this one. Strong Suit should take a lot of play in this one and the Richard Hannon/Richard Hughes tandem is favoured to deliver again. Punters have bet the son of Rahy down to 9/4 with the next best-priced contenders being Soul and Lethal Force at 4/1.
In the 4:50, we're going 1m on the grass in this contest for two year old's. Red Runaway had to drop down to the all-weather in order to get that first victory while Shrewd was a beaten favourite last time having been on the hunt for a thidd score on the bounce. The son of Street Sense has already won a conditions stakes and will be looking to get things back on track. Shebebi lines up for Sheikh Hamdan and retains Paul Hanagan for the mount.
The final race of the day at 5:20 is the Mollart Cox Handicap where we've got Class 2 runners going 1m4f. Viking Storm has taken two wins in a row while New Hampshire, a son of Elusive Quality, just got up for the win last time with Lee Topliss up.
