2012 York Ebor Runner Profiles Part 2

Willing Foe lines up for Godolphin and carries a very reasonable 14/1 price. Dettori is booked for the mount and they have been knocking on the door for a while. He has only had a single run this year, a handicap contest at Ascot, and he only tends to win when sent off as the betting favourite.

Crackentop lines up for the Tim Easterby yard and he's shown some real verve at York this year - winning a race at York back in June when carrying a massive 10-13. This was, however, a race for lady amateur riders. David Allen hasn't had much luck when getting the mount but the 20/1 price isn't a bad one for those looking for an each-way surprise. His second place at Newcastle looks pretty good on paper but his York form is lacking.

Alkimos is the other Godolphin entry and he gets Silvestre De Sousa. He's not one for a while but has had an outing at York a few weeks ago. He is 33/1 and doesn't look to be too bad of a selection if you're gunning for a place bet but there are much more plausible contenders here. With such a mixed record, he's carrying too much weight.

Area Fifty One took a tricky handicap at Newmarket back in late June when he had David Nolan in the irons and they will be partnering up again for this one. He mustered a fifth from eighteen at York in his last outing but that was with Shane Kelly up. At 28/1 he is certainly a long-shot but he has run well at York this year and looks to be in pretty decent form though he is still yet to score over the surface.

Icon Dream has only had one outing so far this year and the gelded son of Sadler's Wells was able to muster a solid 3/16 finish on his seasonal debut when sent out at 20/1. He should improve but still has a ways to go from a ratings perspective. Look for him around 25/1 and he might be able to muster a surprise here. Look for him to improve two off the extended lay-off.

Hammerfest has done much of his racing on the continent and was able to finish second to Camborne at Ascot back in June. He finished third to Tenenbaum at Deauville last time out and looks pretty good value for a 10/1 price tag.
