2013 Arkle Novice Chase at Leopardstown Preview

The Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Chase is set for another exciting iteration this year at Leopardstown with a number of high-profile contenders set to duel it out over a tough 2m1f. This novice contest will set up a number of these contenders nicely for Cheltenham and Punchestown efforts. There are a couple really good contenders in here who are worth watching, and it’s going to be interesting to see what Burn And Turn is going to be able to put together with the 6 lb advantage he’s getting from the handicappers.

Boston Bob is going to be one of the most prominent contenders for this race and he’s in all kinds of form at the moment with only a single loss - a tough second place finish at last year’s Cheltenham Festival - in his past several races.

You’ll also note that he captured this race last year by a solid 2 lengths and a bit margin. Expect him to emerge as a real contender for the Willy Mullins yard at this year’s festival - a win here would set him up nicely. It’s going to be tough to get a solid price on him but many expect him to romp home here, solidifying his presence as the top novice chaser in Ireland.

His seasonal debut this year wasn’t a particularly tough race, but it’s quite obvious that it didn’t take much out of him.

Expect Boston Bob to be held up and travel towards the rear of the field. It’s unlikely that the going will put him off at any stage of this one as he has proven himself over various types of ground. Expect an odds-on price for this one as he’s only dealing with a short field here, despite some of the talent he’s set to run against.

Arvika Ligeonniere is a tough contender on this circuit and has some proven form at Leopardstown from his last race - where the son of Arvinco was able to dispose of the respected Oscards Well. Sent off on the day at a 9/10 price tag with Paul Townend in the irons that day, you can expect him to go right to the front and put together a nice performance.
