2013 Arlington Million Betting Preview Part 3

Argentine Shipper Indy Point gets his first stateside effort in the Arlington Million and the talented four-year-old chestnut colt by top South American sire Indygo Shiner looks ready for his step up to the big leagues. While it is usually preferable to favour South American shippers in the winter months, it’s clear that Indy Point has been targeted at this race for a long time and that connections have their eyes firmly-fixed on the Breeders’ Cup in November.

Punters will find Indy Point trading at a 7/1 price tag alongside Mull of Killough and looks a slightly better bet than his Irish-bred counterpart.

Mull of Killough is a middling Group 3 winner who will be going on his fourth start of the season since debuting in April. He shipped to Kranji for a kick at the can in the Singapore Airlines International Cup where he finished a respectable fifth from thirteen to Military Attack. He won his debut effort this year but just doesn’t look like he’s going to be that competitive in the Million unless he can step it up and find another gear here. Without a Group 1 win or even a Group 1 placing you have to wonder whether he is being shipped over for a Breeders’ Cup run. Is time running out on the seven-year-old gelding? It’s a legitimate question.

Mike De Kock’s entry The Apache had a productive season in Dubai during his three-race stint despite only actually scoring in one race. He topped City Style in his debut and then managed to finish second twice to Sajjhaa in the Jebel Hatta and the big-money Dubai Duty Free.

He had a run in the York Stakes, a Group 2 contest, but could only muster a fourth place finish from six. Sent off at 8/1 it looked like punters weren’t that confident in Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum’s entry but he appears to be getting some significant backing in the Arlington Million with punters tucking in at an 8/1 price tag with the assurance that he will get Lasix for the first time.
